The EA288 engine has very tight clearances in the cutout for the water pump. If the water pump is not installed perfectly straight the impeller can impact the block and cause water pump failure.
Please follow these steps to ensure proper installation:
Always spin the water pump on the bench and watch the impeller to be sure the impeller spins true and without any signs of wobble.
Install the water pump perfectly straight, use a light tap from a mallet to seat the pump fully.
Do not use the screws to pull the pump into the block. Using the screws can cause the pump to move on an angle which risks the pump getting stuck on the inside of the block.
After installation spin the pump by hand and listen for any signs of the pump contacting the inside of the block, including noise or resistance to spinning.
Due to the highly technical nature of installation, any pumps which show damage on the impeller indicating block contact are not valid for warranty.
